Katy-
And i remember a little story (that is quiet important to me), hope i do
not bore with my sentimentality....(and my loooooong postings)
Do you know what my fave record is ? Up to our hips
(cos it was the first record of charlies that i bought ) On a sampler there was The Only One I Know (and because of this
only song i knew) but liked it so much (for itīs funky but soft groove)... i bought the cd up to our hips. For me it was perfect
- the sound - the lyrics the Hammond and I do love Hammond (thatīs another reason why i was really interested in charlatans). No
one of my german friends do know them (itīs only me) but i do listen to lot of various kinds of music....mixed bunch of
differend things, but charlatans are one of my fave (even til today).
... i saw them live as well at Frankfurts Batschkapp
( i believe 1996), me in the first row and the band (better to say tim) just an arm-lengh away from me.... without any security
or so... quite nice, i had a good few !!! they played standard and dissappeared quickly, but Tim was as nice as he looked
like. Charming dancer, shaking hands to my neibour (i was to shy to reach out my hand ;O) And it was one of that gigs
that sticked in my mind (somehow i was really pleased with their live show)
In July 1997 i was on vacation to York,
England. Me and my boyfriend drove by car to some friend of my boyfriend in York)...does anybody know the `the Red Lion pup`?,
thats were we stranded most of the time after we had found bed and breakfast.
It was so hot these days in July that
all the Englishmen (wearing their sunheads) complaining about red skin and some buddys even jumped naked into the lake..... We
had a nice time at york (didnīt make it to manchester, we were told, itīs not worth the effort) our friend said - itīs dirty
and not so beautiful)... We drove home to the south exactly at July the 26th to 27 th and it was the day of raining.....the
hell came down the highway and the sun had gone...we drove through the night til dover. On the fairy i saw Melody Maker
or NME, dunnot know..... and i bought it. It was just one small article about what happend that night we drove through
the rain... i was sad at that time, because i didnīt want my vacation to stop...and the rain seemed to cry, too.... Robīs
accident was kinda big shock to me (cos i was so near, in a strange way)...and loved the hammond so much...
And i started
to cry on the fairy way back home i was so sad, that i could do nothing, but cry.....
Rest in peace, Rob Glad
that charlies survived it, didnīt quit and found a good new man (good luck to them)
Cheers Katy

I noticed that you have not been getting very many emails about
him. I never got a chance to meet him myself, as I only got into the Charlatans seriously after Tellin Stories came out. I
never knew much about the band before that, but one thing was for sure seeing Rob playing in the Crashin In video for the
first time, was a revelation for me. From then on, I put away my guitar and set out to learn keyboard. Its too bad I never
got to meet him in person, especially after hearing all the stories about him, and the crazy things he did. Maybe one day
when I get a band together, Ill have a Hammond of my own. Look for the guy citing Rob as him main influence...
