"It's a Sonic Soul Karma Groove......."

How very true that is about the songs coming from this new band. Formed earlier this year, the Shadow line, all members hailing from different areas in the UK ,have just released their brilliant Demo featuring three breathtaking songs guaranteed to make you grin like an idiot. The demo which was recorded at In Heaven studios this July was produced by John Robb (You might remember him as the author of the books The Charlatans: We are Rock and the Stone Roses: The ressurection of British Pop, member of Goldblade and ex-membranes legend). Tom met John Robb when he was producing the band he was in and was very keen to help with the demo. The demo was recorded at Paul Fenech (The Meteors)'s In Heaven studio.

Having received the demo, I couldn't wait to hear it. I rarely listen to something and like it straight away but I simply couldn't stop playing it. "Sonic Soul Karma Groove" reminded me of the Roses and the Charlatans. It had the grooves (Duh! The song being named Sonic Soul Karma Groove) and it could make anybody dance. I couldn't help humming the song the following day at work.

The Second song to feature on the Demo, "Eastern Eyes" swept me off my feet. Mellow and somewhat romantic had me smiling all the way through the song. Do you know that feeling you get  when you like a song that totally absorbs you into the magic of it and you just enjoy the bliss it brings with it? I had that feeling listening to the song. Tom's voice being extremely soothing along with the romantic feeling of the guitar done the trick very well here. Definetely my fav song.

And if you have a romantic song and a groovy song, you need to have an angry song (Call it rebellious or what have you) and that's the case with "Inside". "There's no highway in the sky. You don't have to die, just learn how to fly"-The case with this song is that it rocks!!! You have to hear the guitar solo to know what I mean- That Dan....what a talent!

I don't think I can exactly explain  the greatness of these tunes as there's so much to say and it's hard to describe it in words. All I can say is, that yes you can compare them to the Charlatans, the Roses and Primal Scream if you like and yes you're guaranteed to like them if you're into those bands. But I doubt many bands like to be compared to others- all I can say is that the Shadow line have the musical talent all those bands were blessed with.

The Shadow Line will be playing 2 gigs next week at The Vic, Swindon (31st July) and Fusion, Swindon (3rd August). They will be playing more gigs round the country very soon.
